Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about finding cheap meals on CheapBites.
What is CheapBites?
CheapBites is a free directory of restaurants, cafes and eateries across Australia where you can get a meal for under $20. It's community-driven — anyone can submit a place they know about, and we verify and add it. No ads, no sign-up, no sponsored listings.
Which cities does CheapBites cover?
We currently have listings in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, and Adelaide, with more cities being added. Our goal is to cover all of Australia — if your city or suburb isn't listed yet, you can submit a restaurant and help us grow.
How do I find cheap food near me?
Type your suburb into the search bar, or tap "Use my location" to see what's nearby. You can also filter by cuisine type or price — under $10, under $15, or under $20.
What do the price colours mean?
Every listing is colour-coded so you can tell the price at a glance. Green means under $10, gold means under $15, and red means under $20.
Can I add a restaurant?
Yes. Tap the "Know a cheap spot?" button and fill in the details — restaurant name, suburb, cuisine, a dish and its price. Submissions are reviewed before they go live. You don't need an account.
Is CheapBites free?
Completely free. There are no charges for users or for restaurants. We don't run ads or accept payment for listings.
How accurate are the prices?
Prices are based on what was reported when the listing was submitted and may change over time. If you notice a price that's out of date, you can suggest an edit on any listing and we'll update it.
I own a restaurant — can I list it?
Absolutely. Use the submit form and tick "I'm the owner or work here" so we know. As long as you have at least one meal under $20, your restaurant is welcome on CheapBites.
